We will utilize MyOpenMath (MOM) for ALL graded and non-graded tasks! The Gradebook will also be in MyOpenMath!

There are seven (7) types of tasks for you to complete, some are graded and some are not graded. They consist of (a) writing an Autobiography; (b) completing the Syllabus Review; (c) studying the Learning Materials; (d) completing the Practice Problem Sets; (e) completing the Module Reviews; (f) taking the Module Quizzes; and (g) taking the proctored, comprehensive Final Exam.

a. Write an Autobiography - Not Graded (but necessary for continued success)

It requires you to introduce yourself to the class in a MyOpenMath forum called “Autobiography”. You can find the task in MOM in the "Preliminaries" Tasks Folder.

WARNING: You must have completed the Autobiography Task with a 100% before you can access the syllabus review and other course materials.

b. Complete the Syllabus Review - Not Graded (but necessary for continued success)

The syllabus review tests your knowledge of the course workings, rules, and policies. It is protected by a password which will be given to you by the instructor in the response to your autobiography posting. You can find the syllabus review in MOM in the "Preliminaries" folder.

WARNING: You must have completed the Syllabus Review with a 100% before you can access Practice 1PRE, the Module Quizzes, and the Final Exam.

c. Study the Learning Materials - Not Graded (but necessary for continued success)

The MOM course is divided into three (3) learning modules of five weeks each. Every week contains several folders each containing a "Learning Materials" link. There you will find typed instructor notes explaining the concepts and examples, YouTube videos and eTexts were written by various other mathematics instructors from other institutions.

The primary source of learning are the instructor notes and examples and some YouTube videos. Unless directed otherwise, you are to assume every example in the instructor's notes and "Examples" documents should be reworked. Or, at the very least, you should do enough of them so that you understand the concepts. The secondary source of learning are the eTexts. ONLY if you are not satisfied with the instructor's notes should you consult them.

NOTE: The eTexts contain a huge amount of materials and not everything pertains to this course. The instructor lecture notes will tell you what to concentrate on and what to ignore. Please understand that the formulas and solution paths in the eTexts might be slightly different from the ones in the instructor lecture notes. This is the nature of mathematics, and these differences teach you critical thinking skills.

d. Complete the Practice Problem Sets - Graded

There are over thirty practice problem sets. They are concept-related and prepare you for the Module Quizzes and the Final Exam. The average of the grades of all practice problem sets counts for 40% of your course grade. You can find the practice problem sets in MOM. Practice 1PRE requires a 100% on the Syllabus Review.

Thereafter, you must achieve at least a 75% on the previous practice problem set before you can access the following one. All practice set with a "PRE" suffix (e.g., 1PRE) require a 100% completion.

Practices 8PRE and 16 require you to complete the Module 1 Quiz and the Module 2 Quiz, respectively with at least a 1%.

Practice 12 is password protected. You will get the password from the instructor as soon as you tell her the date and time of your proctored, comprehensive Final Exam appointment with one of the CSN Testing Centers.

e. Complete the Module Reviews - Not Graded (but necessary for continued success)

f. Take the Module Quizzes - Graded

The Module Quizzes require a 100% on the Syllabus Review.

There are three (3) module quizzes, one at the end of each of the three learning modules. The average of ALL module quiz grades counts for 40% of your course grade. g. Take the Proctored, Comprehensive Final Exam - Graded

There is a proctored, comprehensive Final Exam. Its grade counts for 20% of your course grade. This exam consists of problems taken from the Module Quizzes.

You must take the proctored, comprehensive Final Exam at one of the CSN Testing Centers. If traveling to a campus is not possible, you must discuss other options with the instructor at least ONE WEEK prior to the start of the Final Exam availability period. See Dr. Stewart's Tentative Course Schedule. You can find its (brown) button on the Canvas Course Home Page.

If you are registered with the CSN Disability Resource Center and you want to take the Final Exam in their facilities, you must discuss this with the instructor AT LEAST one week before the exam becomes available.

The proctored, comprehensve Final Exam is password protected, and the proctor will input the password for you. You can find the Final Exam in the MOM "Tasks Folder 16".

The proctored, comprehensive Final Exam requires a 100% on the Syllabus Review.
