CANVAS - Required

We will use the free CANVAS as our "Course Organization System". Canvas allows for quick and easy access to all course tools, course rules and policies, and helpful hints.

Go to https://go.csn.edu and click on “Log In”. ATTENTION: You might have to go to “Additional Links” and perform an “Account Validation” if you have never set up a CSN Login Password. Once you are logged into your GoCSN Page, you will see many buttons. One of them is called “Canvas”. Click on it!  Pick your CSN account and follow the instructions. You might have to download the Microsoft Authenticator app to your cell phone! Before you can access your CANVAS Home Page!

MyOpenMath (aka MOM) - Required

We will use the free MyOpenMath as our "Math Learning System". MOM contains online textbooks, the instructor-created lecture notes, assorted YouTube videos, homework assignments, exams, asynchronous communication tools, and much more.

ProctorU - Optional

The Module Exams and the Final Exam are proctored. You can take them either at one of the CSN Testing Centers or with the free online proctoring service ProctorU. In either case, you must attempt to download the ProctorU protocols.

Zoom - Required

The free online conference room called Zoom will be used for office hours (see paragraph #6 above), our class meetings, and any other face-to-face meetings should you want to talk to the instructor outside of class or office hours. In that case, please make an appointment with the instructor. Download the "Zoom Client for Meetings" at https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting.

Laptop or Standalone Computer - Required

Please note, that the applications we use DO NOT WORK with Chromebooks, Mobile Devices, Tablets/iPads, Linux/Unix OS, or MS Surface RT. If necessary, YOU MUST make arrangements to take ALL graded tasks on a laptop or standalone computer.

Google Chrome - Required

The best browser to use is Google Chrome even for Mac users. Most application we use do not always work together well with other browsers.

Webcam and Microphone - Required

You must have access to a Webcam (stand-alone or build into our computer) and a microphone so that you can receive LIVE Zoom instructions.

Scanning Capability - Optional

Should you want to send work to the instructior, you must have a scanner or a cell phone scanner app (e.g., Adobe Scan). However, you can also make pictures with your cell phone.

Calculator - Required

A calculator is necessary in this course! It MUST be any physical scientific or graphing calculator with physical buttons. Be sure to use a calculator with "forward logic". The TI 30X IIB or IIS or the TI 30XS MultiView scientific calculators are recommended.

You can use the calculator for the practice tasks, the module reviews, the module exams, and the Final Exam. Be sure to use the same calculator for all your work!

NOTE: You cannot use a cellphone or smart watch calculator app or an online calculator (e.g. Desmos).

Instructor Lecture Notes - Required

The instructor lecture notes can be found in MOM. The MOM course is divided into three (3) modules of five weeks each. Every week contains several folders each containing a "Learning Materials" link. There you will find written instructor notes explaining the concepts.

YouTube Videos - Required

Under the "Learning Materials" links in the MOM Tasks Folders you can also find YouTube videos recorded by various mathematics instructors from other institutions showing more examples of how to work problems.

Hardcover Textbook - None

You do not have to purchase a hardcover textbook. You can find eText links under each "Learning Materials" link in the MOM Tasks Folders. These eTexts were written by various other mathematics instructors from other institutions. ONLY if you are not satisfied with the instructor's notes should you consult the eTexts.
