REQUIRED TECHNOLOGY AND TECHNICAL ABILITY FOR MATH 116 HYBRID
This course involves Web-based activities and the use of multi-media and
specific software components. Please read more about required technology and technical ability below.
ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEMESTER ...
- You must have access to a desktop or laptop computer with the Windows or Mac operating system installed.
NOTE: iPads, Chromebooks, MS Surface RTs, and similar devices are NOT SUPPORTED by the media we are using. It is up to you to have the appropriate hardware.
- You must have access
to and know how to operate your Web camera, computer microphone and speakers, computer printer, and a scanner or cell phone camera.
- You must have Internet access in place! Both PC and Mac owners must use the latest version of the Chrome Internet browser!
- You must have the newest Adobe Acrobat Reader version installed and know how to use it to access pdf files.
- You must have a word processing program installed and know how to use it (especially copy, cut, paste).
- You must know how to navigate the MyOpenMath (MOM) learning management system we are using in this course.
- Should you ever want to talk to the instructor LIVE, know how to install the free-of charge meeting software called Zoom and know how to use it. Download the "Zoom Client for Meetings" at https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting.
- Should you ever want to send the instructor your work, know how to create pdf files with a physical scanner or a cell phone scanner app (e.g., Adobe Scan, CamScanner).
- You must own and know how to operate a hand-held scientific or graphing calculator.
- The Final Exam is proctored. You can take it either at one of the CSN Testing Centers or with the free online proctoring service ProctorU. In either case, you must attempt to download the ProctorU protocols.
- You must have a valid e-mail account and you must know how to send and receive e-mails; send and open file attachments; and print messages.
- You must know how to do the following:
- access the Internet
- follow hyperlinks and navigate "back" and
"forward"
- add and access browser "Bookmarks" and "Bookmarks" folders
- adjust font size for reading Web pages
- download applications from Web sites and install them to
your computer
- adjust color preferences for reading and printing Web
pages
- copy information on the Web to a word processing
program
- reload (refresh) the screen
- use a Web browser's "Search" feature
to gain access to Web sites
- print Web pages
- turn off pop-up blocking feature
- use your Web browser's "Help" files for additional assistance
